Get to Know - MaryNotMartha
What is your Etsy shop name? MaryNotMartha
How did you come up with that name? The name is a scriptural reference to two sisters, one who knew how to sit and learn and love, while the other was "busy and anxious" - obviously, she was Martha! Since I long to be more like Mary, I need to run the shop with efficiency and attentiveness, but never at the cost of my priorities.
What sort of crafting supplies do you sell? Since the line of crafting supplies is still evolving and growing, inventory shifts. When I started the shop, I was making crepe paper party favor nut cups. As I began doing more paper crafts, I longed to create supplies that looked vintage, so began to experiment with any number of items, from ribbons to crepe paper ruffles to millinery flowers. Anything that could be incorporated into a craft became a science project! Since then, I have begun to add commercially available items such as Dupioni Silks, lace trims, and millinery flowers and leaves. On occasion I also come across vintage items that fit into the sensibility of the shop.
Favorite website(s) aside from Etsy? As a homeschooling Mom, I really don't have a huge amount of time to devote to exploring other sites. For now, my family is the top priority, and my business eats up most of the remaining time, either creating for the shop, listing, or doing research.
Do you craft yourself? If so, what do you like to make? Oh, I love to do so many things! From jewelry to sewing, knitting, crocheting, millinery, making cards, doing wedding flowers..... so many interests, but not enough time!
Please tell us one thing that nobody would know about you. I'm Canadian.
What is your favorite thing to make for dinner?I won't go with the stock answer ("reservations" - who has time to go eat out?!).... for now, it has to be something quick and cool, as the summers in Sunny Southern California with no central air quench the desire to turn on the stove!
What goals do you have for your shop over the next year?First, to become much more organized. I want a place where I can keep my inventory ready to go in an instant (unless it's a custom order, of course) .Second, to develop and add new items that appeal to the ever-growing, ever-changing needs of the seriously discriminating crafter.Third, to increase my sales without any negative impact upon my family. Perhaps that could have been #1, but if #1 and #2 are not in place, #3 just won't happen!
If you sell on other venues, where else can we find your items?Nowhere currently..... I love Etsy so much, I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be!http://www.marynotmartha.etsy.com/
